The actors often had to use green or blue props when interacting with the dragons, which were later replaced with digital dragons. The study of real animals, such as birds and bats, inspired the flight patterns and body movements of the dragons.

Large-scale battle scenes: “Game of Thrones” featured several huge battle scenes such as the “Battle of the Bastards”and the “Long Night.” Hundreds of real actors were filmed for these scenes and then multiplied with CGI soldiers, creating the illusion of an army of thousands. Environments were also digitally enhanced to give the fortresses and landscapes a massive feel. Matte paintings, set extensions, and particle effects were used extensively.
